In 2007 JCB Inc. formed the Dealer Assistance Center (DAC) as a way to attract and retain young talent to JCB. The idea was to create an exciting career path that would offer exposure to all areas of the JCB business and be attractive to top job candidates across the United States. The DAC serves as a management training program where each new member is assigned a mentor from senior management to offer guidance and support throughout their learning process.
For the dealers, the DAC offers a comprehensive source of information in the areas of: marketing, sales communications, machine supply and attachment supply. The DAC is a dealer’s hotline into JCB. They have one point of contact that can get them the answers they need with a quick response time. For the members of the DAC, it provides them with the opportunity to quickly learn all facets of the construction equipment business, both from a JCB stand point and from a dealer perspective.
The original DAC class has now rotated out of the call center into different areas of the business including field sales, national accounts, marketing supply and finance.
Todd Almond, a member of the original DAC class, says, “The experience I have had in the DAC program has given me a better understanding of how our business works. It has broken down communication barriers within the company and helped me to understand how one decision affects multiple areas of the business.”
Todd is currently working with the customer support team and will move into a agricultural sales position in January, joining his fellow classmates in the field, Robbie Angle and Adam Howard.
Brett Williamson, also an original DAC team member, echoes Todd’s sentiments saying, “The program is unique in that we are given the opportunity to touch so many parts of the company. The level of trust and confidence placed in me gives me great satisfaction knowing I’m playing a vital part of the team.”
Since the original class, two more have followed, with three new members currently handling the DAC duties.
“ I am continually impressed with the initiative and enthusiasm members of the DAC team show. They have a desire to learn and a passion for the business that will make them very successful and offer a tremendous benefit to JCB. It is important for JCB to be thinking about our leadership of tomorrow, and this program represents a great training ground,” says John Patterson.

A record-setting JCB Dieselmax engine is the newest addition to the renewable energy laboratory in Georgia Southern University’s Allen E. Paulson College of Science and Technology. The JCB Dieselmax engine will be used by students in the research of biodiesel and other biofuels combustion emissions.
“JCB is pleased to donate this record setting diesel engine to GA Southern University. This engine is a testament to innovation, which is at the core of JCB’s success globally. As such, we are proud to be able to continue that tradition on a local level through partnerships with cutting edge academic institutions such as Georgia Southern,” said David Turner, Vice President of Operations for JCB.
Georgia Southern established the renewable energy lab a year-and-a-half ago and in that time the lab and the University’s Master of Science in Applied Engineering program have grown tremendously, thanks in part to community partnerships like the one with JCB.
“This partnership provides tremendous opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students and Georgia Southern faculty to participate in real-world applied research that can provide local economic benefits to the region,” said Bret Danilowicz, Dean of the College of Science in Technology.
If your machine is equipped with a/c then you should clean the cab filter daily. If you want to stay cool, you have got to stay clean.

Head of Rental Company, Michael Gallacher who has just invested in a new fleet of JCB's is also hiring out reindeer as a recession-beating way of generating new business.
Christmas has come early for Rudolph and his friends thanks to a very special delivery of JCBs that will help a herd of reindeer keep feeding during the winter months.
Equipment rental company boss Michael Gallacher – one of a handful of people in the UK to care for and rent out real life reindeers for special occasions – has bought four brand new JCBs to add to his fleet. The machines – all JCB Loadall 531-70 models with telescopic handling ability – will be hired out to customers of Michael’s company, the GCS Group, based in Sittingbourne, Kent.
And in a festive twist they will also be used to deliver “presents” of hay bales to the reindeer pasture, so the herd – which is helping Michael beat the recession through alternative business generation – can enjoy their own version of Christmas dinner during a popular time of year for their services.
Michael says his investment in JCB machines also demonstrates that the GCS Group is going from strength to strength despite the economic gloom. The expanding fleet includes a range of mini excavators, rollers and now the Loadall telehandlers.
Michael said: “JCB Loadalls are the best in the business. They are very reliable and also have a great re-sale value. As well as being very popular with our customers they are also really useful with the reindeer. We’ll be using the JCB Loadalls to deliver bales of hay to the reindeer during the winter months and they will also be used to load the sleigh they pull when they are hired out for appearances.”
During the six weeks up to Christmas, the reindeer – all imported from the North Pole – make numerous appearances at Santa’s Workshops, parties and other festive celebrations.
Michael added: “I’ve really stepped up the reindeer hire in the light of the recession. You have to look at alternative ways of generating business and fortunately they are proving to be a big hit. They are really popular at this time of year, as you can imagine. What can be better for a child going to Santa’s Grotto and seeing the ‘’real’ Rudolph, Donner or Blitzen pulling a sleigh. It makes their Christmas!”
The GCS Group was set up by Michael more than 20 years ago and is based on his farms. The company now has more than 160 machines for hire and an expanding customer base in the South East of England and beyond. The machines are hired out to the construction, agricultural and waste sectors and even TV production companies.
Michael said: “We are doing well, despite the current economic conditions and continuing to expand healthily. Having a strong brand like JCB on board will definitely make a difference.”
JCB North America would like to introduce a new series featuring Mark Coberly our North American Service Manager. In this series Mark will hit the mark on productivity, safety, operation, and getting more out of your equipment. We’ll be adding new videos throughout the year, that will give you great ideas on how to repair and maintain your heavy equipment, while maximize your machines performance and minimize downtime.
Our first video is a short introduction on what you should be doing to reduce maintenance cost on your backhoe loader by just performing a few daily checks, before operating your machine. Please remember to always reference your machines operator manual for fluid types and manufacture recommendations before performing any work on your machines.
JCB North America would like to hear ideas from you, so please send us any questions or suggestions that you may have to designworksusa@jcb.com
